With ABLV Bank financial support Alexander Vassiliev exhibition again in Riga

Riga, Latvia, July 16, 2015, 16:01 / Banking

From 16 July to 25 October 2015, the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Riga (10/20 Skarņu Street) will host the exhibition “Invitation to the Centenary Ball. 1915–2015” presenting the most glamorous evening gowns from the private collection of the outstanding fashion historian Alexandre Vassiliev.

Alexandre Vassiliev’s private couture collection show at the Museum of Decorative Arts and Design in Riga has become a tradition since it is the seventh time that he stages his exhibitions here. This year, the glamorous show brings together the most beautiful costumes characterizing the historical period from 1915 to 2015. It is a celebration of a centenary-long past of fashion, a fashion triumph and the quintessence of beauty. The exhibition comprises unique ball and evening gowns from the latest acquisitions to the Alexandre Vassiliev Foundation.

This time the exhibition is complemented by a wide range of events, including lectures, meetings and conversations with fashion experts, as well as various creative workshops will be held. The first time in the history of exhibitions, visitors will be able to obtain a catalogue in Latvian, Russian and English. It was published by the Latvian National Museum of Art in cooperation with ABLV Bank so that after the tour, the guests will be able to recall the exponents, find out about the history of etiquette and its development, and to learn about the peculiarities of wearing evening gowns.

Expressing gratitude for long-term cooperation the Member of the Board of ABLV Bank Romans Surnačovs said: “I recall when seven years ago we granted money for the first exhibition we worried about public interest. Now we are anxious, but this time we worry whether this exhibition will hit the last year record of attendance in Latvia. Each exhibition is our pleasure at which we gain new knowledge. This exhibition as a historical book of contemporary times tells the audience through gowns about rapidly developed and in many cases dramatic events of the past century.”

As an expression of gratitude, an umbrella from ABLV exclusive collection — The Art of Nature, London Undercover, was presented to Alexander Vassiliev. The photograph by Jānis Deinats, which is included in the collection for the future Latvian museum of contemporary art, is reproduced on this umbrella.
