March 13, 2002 / Banking

"Aizkraukles banka" (AB) in cooperation with "Tieto Konts" has installed the first three-currency ATM in Latvia. It is located in the new central client service office of AB on Elizabetes Str. 21a. The ATM allows customers to perform transactions in three currencies — lats, US dollars and Euro.

"The advantages of the three-currency ATM will prove particularly useful for customers who are frequent travellers as well as customers from abroad. This multi-currency ATM cash withdrawal service enables customers to withdraw money in lats and two other most widely used currencies and therefore serves as a substitute for currency exchange operations. An important aspect of the new service is that the ATM is available for use by all VISA and Eurocard/Mastercard credit cards holders as well as all those holding VISA Electron, Maestro and Cirrus debit cards regardless of the identity of the issuing bank." says Aivars Rauska, Deputy Head of the Customers Service Division of AB.

"Aizkraukles banka" — modern technologies and individual solutions

The three-currency ATM is one more evidence of AB’s strategy of implementing modern technologies that ensure the provision of AB’s individual solutions that provide customers with more freedom of choice and action. The same as the new ATM, AB’s payment cards are multi-currency, allowing for both lats and US dollars can to be stored in their accounts.

The first project of such type in Baltics

The installation of the German manufactured ATM "WINCOR — NIXDORF Pro Cash 2000" was carried out one of the by the leading financial IT companis in Latvia "Tieto Konts" (TK). Implementing the functionality of the ATM, TK made several changes to the software, which enables the administration of the ATM network at the card-processing centre "BankServiss". In total approximately three months were required for the implementation of the project.

«This is the first multi-currency ATM project in the Baltics. It gave us an opportunity to prove that we are able to satisfy the requirements of a modern bank not only from the software point of view, but also by ensuring the delivery, installation and service of the necessary equipment. As competition among financial service providers grows, AB’s specialists are aware that customers value not only an individual approach but also the speed and convenience of the service they receive based on modern technologies», says Maris Ozolins, General Director of TK.

Priority for "Aizkraukles banka" — speed and convenient service

In order to achieve the strategic goal of increasing the market share, AB is allocates substantial investments both in the client service infrastructure and in the most advanced banking technologies. The three-currency ATM has been installed in AB’s new central client service office on Elizabetes Str. 21a, which operations began on 11th March.
